Australia's AtMail celebrates first decade
December 11, 2008: Celebrating 10 years since founder Ben Duncan developed the first AtMail program at age 17, the Australia-based company helps leading universities and ISPs offer free email to millions of users while its commercial systems go up against the might of Microsoft Exchange.
With more than 15 million email users worldwide, AtMail continues to provide universities, government agencies, ISPs, and small- to mid-sized businesses with cost-effective email systems available in both commercial and open source options.
"We've stayed true to the original vision of a simple, easy-to-use email system that is more intuitive and customizable than the alternatives," said AtMail Vice President Corey Bissaillon.
"When AtMail was first released it was one of the first 'commercial' webmail systems. Today AtMail builds one of the most widely used webmail systems in the world for ISPs, education institutions and a wide range of business customers. Our approach remains highly differentiated, as AtMail provides a complete webmail system for existing POP3/IMAP accounts, and the AtMail Email Server for mission critical deployments."
Recent milestones for the company include:
-- Launch of AtMail Open, a lightweight webmail client application for managing email using any common web browser;
-- Introduction of AtMail Cluster Edition, a new web-based solution for monitoring and managing multiple email servers remotely;
-- Integration with Verio's Virtual Managed Server;
-- Availability of AtMail Open in Plesk 9.
