One Step Closer to Paperless Office

One Step Closer to Paperless Office

June 4, 2007: Canon has launched a new Enterprise Document Management system that it says enables the integration of device-based electronic document distribution, effectively bridging the gap between digital and paper documents.

In partnership with the US firm eCopy, the “ShareScan Open Platform” solution enables anyone in an organisation to distribute high-resolution document scans to specific destinations over a network.

Used with Canon multi-function devices (MFDs), eCopy can be integrated with applications such as EMC’s Documentum, Open Text, Lotus Notes and Microsoft Exchange for example, with documents flowing out to locations as they are scanned.

The system comes in two distinct flavours, with the first being an internal solution integrated with Canon’s MFDs to enable eCopy to be accessed from the copier’s touch screen, and the second is an external attachment that includes its own touch screen, keyboard and computer.

Canon claims the system both boosts return on investment and increases the security of communications as critical documents can be locked down with 128-bit encryption before being distributed. Beyond this it is also helping to bring the paperless office one step closer to reality.
