Sun Takes Care of Telco Data

June 8, 2007: In an effort to help EU companies meet their data retention obligations, Sun has launched its Secure Data Retrieval Server promising the industry’s first end-to-end “plug-and-comply” solution.

Sun’s Secure Data Retrieval Server (SDRS) is powered by CopperEye’s Live Architecture technology, enabling it to address not only secure retention and the lifecycle of communications data, but also the business processes surrounding secure and rapid data retrieval and disclosure.

Storing up to 24 terabytes of data, SDRS is an open standards-based solution running Sun’s Solaris OS and it Secure Global Desktop software. Large volumes of compliance data such as call detail records and IP traffic is what the system has been designed for, and according to Sun it uses 15 times less energy than the competition, while retrieving data 20 times faster.

Sun also claims that by integrating its Sun Fire X4500 server with Coppereye's disruptive technology, specific records can be retrieved from within billions of rows of structured, unchanging data in seconds versus minutes or hours.

“The powerful combination of Sun's industry-changing Sun Fire X4500 server platform with CoppereEye's innovative live archiving software is the perfect match for users who need to store and access vast amounts of compliance records at speeds and price points previously unobtainable, crucially without compromising data security,” said Darrell Jordan-Smith, vice president, Communications Industry, Sun Microsystems. “The marriage of these two disruptive technologies provides massive performance with a tiny physical and energy footprint.”
