Taronga Zoo tackles records with ELO

Taronga Zoo keeps records with ELO

June 30, 2009:NSW's famous Taronga and Western Plains Zoos have turned to ELO Digital Office for a Document, Records and Email Management solution.

“After an in-depth analysis of the Zoo’s requirements it was clear we needed a comprehensive solution to managing the Zoos’ electronic and paper assets,” TCSA Records Manager, Pamela Burgoyne, said.

“We’re dealing with historically significant documents which are sometimes more than 100 years old and need to be preserved for many years to come. In addition we needed to cater for all modern records management requirements of a very public entity.”

The pilot project involved mainly administrative departments such as Human Resources and Capital Works & Infrastructure, but also animal collection and research departments. It is anticipated that by the end of 2010 almost 400 Zoo staff will be using ELO’s system. Training for staff has already begun.

Rainer Krause, ELO’s Australian Managing Director, praises the passion of all involved: “It is great to see, that ELO can help the Zoo staff to focus on their passion to conserve rare animals, precious documents and streamline internal processes.”

Taronga Zoo will manage its documents and records using ELO’s core product ELOprofessional and the modules ELO XC, ELO Fulltext (OCR), ELO PDF Printer, ELO Internet Gateway, ELO Barcode and possibly ELO for SAP.

Pamela Burgoyne said: “Once the software was installed, the hard work began. We needed to get the various stakeholders into new processes regarding essentially all business activities. The ELO team created interfaces to ARKS (Animal Records Keeping System), the Zoo’s Active Directory and its legacy records management system (CARMS II).”

After Newcastle Airport, the Taronga Conservation Society is ELO’s second NSW Government agency win since being selected to the state-wide IAMS 2602 Contract in July 2008.

“For us it is a great honour having been selected by the Zoo and we will make sure that a first class solution is delivered. Like German, Hungarian, Czech and Indonesian Government agencies now two great NSW Government agencies will be using our software,” said Karl-Heinz Mosbach, CEO at ELO’s HQ in Germany.

“For us, a project is only completed when the user uses ELO successfully!”

ELO has also become a sponsorship supporter of the TCSA by providing extra licences for the system.
