Records preserved for RMAA rebirth

The Records Management Association of Australia (RMAA) has decided to retain the long-standing reference to “records” in its new title, after negative reaction to its announced decision to change its name to the Informational Management Professionals Australia.

IMPA now becomes RIMPA, as the association looks to the future with a proposal to change its name to the Records and Informational Professionals Australia.

The proposal will go before the RMAA Annual general Meeting on 7 September 2010.

RMAA Chief Executive Officer Kate Walker believes records managers are a “a subset of the profession” and the new name provides better opportunities for growth.

“Expanding the name to reflect Records and Information Management would better position the company to attract new members who are not working in traditional settings and to serve the growing profession of records and information management,” said Walker.
