Iomega Releases 2TB Storage Device

April 4, 2007: Iomega has announced its latest SMB san solution, a two terabyte RAID box that comes with hot-swappable drives, an LCD status panel and formidable data redundancy capabilities thanks to EMC’s Retrospect Express.

Iomega says that the Power Pro Desktop Hard Drive features four 500 gigabyte Serial-ATA (SATA) drives with hardware-based RAID. All are hot-swappable and can be locked in their bays and anchored to a desk for security.

The storage box is compatible with both Mac and Windows (including Vista) and can be connected via FireWire 800, FireWire 400, and USB 2.0. It also features an LCD panel that displays the current RAID level, available storage capacity and fan and temperature condition.

For automated backup and disaster recovery, Iomega has bundled the drive with EMC’s Retrospect Express. The company says can back up open files, verify backup integrity during the backup, have scheduled backups proceed even without logging in, and recover individual files or a complete system to any point in time, the company added.

While it is pitching the drive at SMBs and professionals in need of cavernous and reliable storage, the device is unfortunately devoid of a network connector making it only accessible to a wider LAN if the machine it is connected to is on.

Iomega says the Power Pro Desktop Hard Drive will be available from April 10 at a suggested retail price of US$1,699.95.
