Nexsan Beasts Up Their Storage

February 6, 2007: Nexsan Technologies has announced security and wire-speed iSCSI performance upgrades to SATABeast and SATABoy storage offerings.

Nexsan says the firmware upgrade will boost performance to 100 megabytes per second for Nexsan RAID storage with a single iSCSI port, and 180 megabytes per second with dual ports.

The SATA products offer dual Fibre Channel as well as dual iSCSI ports on each controller, a feature Nexsan says is unique to the industry. Having a multi-protocol approach allows the massive storage capacity of the products to be allocated to either Fibre Channel or iSCSI initiators - or on both protocols at the same time

Gary Watson, CTO of Nexsan, says the enhancements will allow users to deploy iSCSI storage in environments where performance may have previously been a factor. “These advanced, multi-protocol disk storage solutions come at a fraction of the cost of traditional solutions yet serve the widest possible range of storage applications,” he says.

The upgrade is available for all SATABeast and SATABoy products shipped as of today. A free firmware update will be available for existing customers free of charge.
