EMC ControlCenter SAN Advisor 5.3 Software Released

August 7th, 2006: EMC announces a new release of its SAN validation and design tool featuring support for logical SAN configurations and flexibility in applying SAN best practices.

SAN Advisor resource management software enables customers to ensure compliance with best practices for SAN design, implementation and maintenance. It lets storage administrators:

  • Validate the existing SAN environment for best practice compliance
  • Model fixes or changes to the SAN in a risk-free environment
  • Produce an implementation checklist
  • Verify the fixes or changes are implemented correctly

New zone configuration support in SAN Advisor enables users to validate and simulate changes to existing zones, model new zones and specify zoning policies in a SAN design. This capability helps to ensure policy compliance, minimize risk and reduce the time involved in implementing changes while helping to quickly troubleshoot any potential issues.

SAN Advisor currently validates SAN environments using a default set of nearly 150 best practice rules. With SAN Advisor 5.3, users can now customize SAN Advisor's flexible rules engine to selectively validate specific areas of the SAN and comply with company policies.

SAN Advisor is supported by the EMC E-Lab™ Support Matrix, an industry-leading comprehensive online storage interoperability and best practices database. EMC provides automated monthly updates to the E-Lab Support Matrix and other SAN best practices to ensure that SAN Advisor users are equipped with the most accurate device interoperability and configuration data for the latest infrastructure hardware and software.

Starting at US$5,000, SAN Advisor 5.3 is based on capacity pricing and is available immediately through EMC and participating EMC Velocity channel partners.
