EMC Takes Advantage Of RSA Technology

Month Date, 2006: EMC will begin providing native encryption on its data storage to speed up the encryption process.

Storage giant EMC will turn storage arrays into public-key infrastructure (PKI) devices by speeding up the encryption and decryption process. The technology to be used in the new storage encryption will come from software obtained from last month’s purchase of RSA Security Inc. EMC expects products to be available within 12 to 18 months, according to Rob Sadowski, a Senior Marketing Manager for the US-based company.

"We are in the process of investigating what is the best way to implement encryption in all our disk arrays… to encrypt the actual volumes where data may be stored", Says Sadowski. He added that EMC is confident it can provide the technology within the disc array itself so users can encrypt an entire database or multiple data volumes using their standard software management tools, without having to deploy, configure and learn new platforms or a separate appliance.

In related news EMC’s share prices took a dive of over 7 percent on Monday after the company reduced its revenue outlook for the second quarter from US $0.13 to $0.12 per share, below Wall Street and EMC’s previous expectations. The company has also lowered its sales expectations from US $2.66 billion to $2.58 for the quarter.
