Hitachi Boosts USP

Hitachi Boosts USP

Hitachi Data Systems has announced major enhancements to the Hitachi TagmaStore Universal Storage Platform (USP).

Hitachi has added performance and functionality enhancements, including a 25% boost to overall system performance, delivering 2.5 million IOPS (input-output operations per second) of maximum power. The boosted USP reportedly has the ability to accelerate applications such as Oracle Financials and Microsoft SQL Server, while improving the performance of virtualized tiered storage environments.

Hitachi proclaims the USP as the “King of the Hill” in enterprise storage technology. “The Hitachi USP still has no head-to-head competition,” says Tony Asaro, senior analyst, Enterprise Strategy Group.

According to the company, global enterprises are experiencing unprecedented performance and scalability demands for Internet-enabled, online transaction processing (OLTP) applications and infrastructure consolidations. To meet these pressing business requirements, they require a large scalable storage solution. Says Asaro, “With 3,000 (USPs) installed, clearly there is strong demand in the market.”

Hitachi promises that the enhanced USP will now further safeguard data to meet regulatory compliance and risk exposure requirements. It also claims to deliver flexibility by offering multi-protocol consolidation of iSCSI, Fibre Channel, ESCON, FICON and NAS, within a single storage services platform with 100 % data availability guarantee.
