McData And Riverbed Paring Up For WAFS?

McData And Riverbed Paring Up For WAFS?

March 2, 2006: McData and Riverbed are rumoured to have struck a deal that will see McData OEM Riverbed’s Steelhead appliance.

The arrangement is expected to be announced later this month and will see McData compete with the likes of Brocade and Cisco for wide area file services (WAFS).

Riverbed already have a WAN acceleration software deal in place with HP, this new agreement will see McData re-brand the Steelhead and incorporate it into its product line.

If substantiated, the deal could prove a boon for both companies. McData has so far been sitting on the WAN acceleration sidelines and Riverbed is facing increased opposition from more established vendors such as Brocade and Cisco with their own WAFS solutions.

McData and Riverbed were not immediately available for comment.
