McDATA Stretches SAN Speeds

February 9, 2006: The need for disaster recovery and popularity of outsourcing is pushing more data across bigger distances, and at continually rising cost. To combat this, McDATA has introduced a 10Gb/s Intrepid 6000 XPM Blade which it claims enables storage a single connection to move data up to 100 kilometres to at speeds that are significantly greater than other 2Gb/s solutions.

McDATA claims that the XPM provides the highest available bandwidth per port and reduces the number of cables needed for inter-switch links (ISLs) and metro/campus connectivity. It says this results in lowered management and leased fiber costs.

“McDATA’s 10Gb/s Intrepid XPM is an effective storage networking tool that can be used to provide high speed inter switch links (ISLs) over one fiber which consolidates existing resources, optimises data centre performance and protects existing and future investments,” says Ken Cooper, McDATA’s country manager for Australia and New Zealand. “…McDATA is the only vendor to offer 10Gb/s-capable solutions that enables high speed connectivity to support customers’ modular Global Enterprise Data Infrastructure strategies.”

McDATA’s XPM for the 6000 series is available now through IBM, Sun Microsystems and McDATA’s extensive network of channel and reseller partners.
