Fujitsu and OnStor in New NAS Partnership

May 15, 2008: In a bid to develop new scalable, energy-efficient and high-performance network attached storage (NAS) solutions, Fujitsu and ONStor have formed a strategic partnership.

The two will be working together to bring OnStor’s Bobcat NAS Gateway clustered NAS storage solutions together with Fujitsu’s Eternus storage system, creating what the two say is a highly scalable storage platform that medium to large-sized enterprises can use to consolidate existing storage islands and simplify the management and protection of unstructured data.

This partnering of high-end hardware will deliver, according to the pair, a reliable solution with greater throughput, capacity and energy efficiency.

“Almost every area of the enterprise is experiencing rapid growth of unstructured data,” said Brad Nisbet, research manager for storage systems at IDC. “Administrators are looking for more centralised solutions that will address this growth while improving overall data access and data protection.”

Nisbet adds that solutions such as this will help enterprises facilitate a consolidation strategy designed to protect the company, add important levels of control over data, and help scattered data administrators sleep at night.
