Outsourcing Desktops

April 23, 2008: Desktone, a provider of “Desktop-as-a-Service” (DaaS), has announced its new Virtual-D Platform - designed specifically to enable service providers to offer hosted, subscription-based virtual desktops.

The company has pegged the solution as an industry first for its ability to deliver virtual desktops as an outsourced service. It says that with the platform, enterprises can rapidly take advantage of all the benefits centralised virtual desktops offer, without having to build and deploy the infrastructure internally.

It dramatically reduces desktop TCO, transforming computing costs from fixed CAPEX to variable OPEX. Service providers benefit from optimizing use of their data center assets while delivering a new highly scalable, value-added service to customers.

“There’s a tremendous amount of industry interest in virtual desktop computing. It can reduce desktop costs, improve manageability and enhance security,” said Harry Ruda, CEO, Desktone.

“However, because it is very difficult for enterprises to implement, wide-spread adoption has been slow.”

Ruda adds that complexity is virtually eliminated while the “on-ramp to virtual desktop computing” is speeded up by transforming desktops into a cost-effective and scalable subscription service.
