Storage Market Still Booming

March 10, 2008: According to IDC’s Worldwide Disk Storage Systems Quarterly Tracker, the market is still experiencing strong growth, with revenues in the fourth quarter of 2007 surging.

According to the analyst firm, in Q4 factory revenues posted a 9.8% year-over-year growth, totalling US$5.3 (AU$5.67) billion.

For the quarter, the total disk storage systems market grew to US$7.5 (AU$8.02) billion, which marks a growth of 7.6% on Q4 2006. All up, total disk storage systems capacity shipped reached 1,645 petabytes – a jump of 56.3%.

“The disk storage systems market exited 2007 strong, indicating that data storage remains a crucial component to the successful execution of enterprise business,” said Brad Nisbet, research manager, IDC.

“Despite the current, global economic uncertainties, the disk storage systems market is benefiting from a wide variety of drivers, ranging from the simple need to store ever-increasing volumes of business data to the more sophisticated objectives around consolidation, virtualisation, and ease of management.”
