WAN Optimisation Market Has Champagne 2007

March 10, 2008: While the storage market sticks close to double-digit growth every quarter, the WAN Optimisation market has also seen a jump in demand, surging 71% in 2007.

According to Infonetics Research’s latest "Enterprise Routers and WAN Optimization Appliances" report, between 2006 and 2007 the market rocketed up 71% to over US$800 (AU$855.2) million, while enterprise routers hit US$4.3 (AU$4.6) billion in 2007

“The WAN optimisation market had a good year, as vendors ramped up shipments of new products, and Riverbed went into growth mode as a public company,” said Matthias Machowinski, directing analyst for enterprise voice and data at Infonetics Research.

Machowinski notes that things were a little quieter on the enterprise router front, due largely to deterioration in the low-end of the market. However, he added that Cisco's recent announcement of the ASR 1000 should inject some excitement into the market in 2008.

“[T]he high-end router battle between Cisco and Juniper [will be] worth watching,” said Machowinski.
