Adaptec iSCSI technology gets nod from NetApp

Storage solution provider Adaptec's iSCSI technology has been approved by fellow storage vendor Network Appliance for use with NetApp's storage systems. The Adaptec and NetApp products will be available as IP SAN solutions that reduce the cost and complexity of deploying storage area networks for applications such as email, database and disaster recovery.

Adaptec's iSCSI products achieved NetApp-supported status by passing extensive tests for enterprise-class performance, reliability and usability.

An early adopter of the new technology is Trimble, which specialises in Global Positioning System (GPS), optical and laser technologies. The manufacturer has deployed an iSCSI storage network incorporating a Network Appliance storage system and Adaptec iSCSI adapters to support storage pooling for both engineering and Microsoft Exchange. The network provides Trimble with fast, reliable access to its engineering data, which is critical to delivering products to its customers.

"Qualification of Adaptec's iSCSI host bus adapter for use with NetApp iSCSI storage appliances means customers now have access to a complete, trusted solution for IP storage networking," said Ram Jayam, vice president and general manager of Adaptec's Storage Networking Group. "The NetApp-supported IP SAN solution combines the benefits of networked storage with the ease-of-use and cost advantages of Ethernet, significantly reducing the complexity and total cost of ownership for networked storage."

Meanwhile, on a local level, Adaptec has created a new national sales and marketing manager role in retail for Australia and New Zealand.

Joe Bizinger, who was previously national channel manager with Adobe Systems, will be responsible for managing the Adaptec desktop storage products with emphasis on retail channel development, recruiting and building a strong network of retail and distribution partners in Australia and New Zealand.

"The growing markets for wireless and digital video in Australia means bigger opportunity for Adaptec desktops range of products such as USB, Firewire, wireless and video products" said Demetri Christodoulou, Regional Manager for Adaptec Australia / New Zealand. "We are glad to have Joe Bizinger to capture these growth market segments and manage the technology retail business."
