Hit the server for acceleration

Hit the server for acceleration

Speed is the name of the game. A new device on the Australian market claims to speed up servers and reduce the stress on the central processing unit. Alacritech's range of Server Acceleration devices is now being imported into Australia by XSI Data Solutions.

The Alacritech cards fit into the PCI slot and offload the TCP/IP protocol processing from the server central processing unit (CPU). Alacritech claims their SLIC Technology delivers a higher network throughput on local area networks (LAN).

"This is aimed at high end NAS users and for large scale file sharing and anywhere where there is a high throughput of server traffic," said Nathan Chan, the general manager of the Networking Division of XSI Data Solutions. Alicritech also claims network latency is reduced, server overheads are lowered and that the device is fully interoperable with industry standard routers, switches and hubs. A port aggregation software package comes with the device, which also allows four ports to share the same IP address.

XSI Data Solutions become the Master Distributor for Alicritech in Australia on Monday. This is Alicritech's first venture into the Australian market.
