Raising the SCSI stakes

The battle to raise the performance of SCSI controllers continues with Adaptec announcing that its latest Ultra320 product has increased peak performance by a claimed 60 per cent.

Comparing their product to those from rivals, Adaptec claims to have a data transfer performance of 546 megabytes per second over two channels and increase of 26 megabytes over a rival device that claims to have set the benchmark. Using two controllers, the Adaptec Ultra320 SCSI can deliver 1.09 gigabytes per second.

Adaptec also claims the device has achieved a peak performance of 105,000 input/output operations per second. Input and output operations are a key measure of online transaction processing (OLTP) application performance.

Adaptec has an enviable position as the original equipment manufacturer supplier to many of the top 10 server suppliers on the market, including Dell, Fujitsu, Siemens, Hewlett-Packard (HP), and NEC, as well as strong relationships with Maxtor and Seagate.
