Dreamweaver talks to Nokia

Macromedia has demonstrated an authoring solution for Web content that is delivered to Nokia mobile phones.

WML Objects for Dreamweaver is an extension to the popular visual authoring tool that will create content for Nokia Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) handsets. Nokia's 7110 handset was the first used for WAP content in Australia.

Due to ship in the first quarter of 2000, Nokia WML objects will be freely available from both Nokia and Macromedia's Web sites.

The solution will allow authors to create new WML decks and cards, insert images, modify text and implement anchors and styles within the Dreamweaver interface.

"Demand for the mobile Internet, and specifically WAP-compliant solutions, continues to grow," said Paul Chellgren, vice-president, business development and product management at Nokia.

The mobile phone maker estimates that 15 per cent of handsets sold in the year 2000 will be Net-capable, and expects that mobile access to the Internet will quickly surpass that of freestanding PCs.

WML Objects for Dreamweaver complies with version 1.1 of the WAP specification.
