Sepaton and Dot Hill Join Forces for Raid 6 VTL

By Greg McNevin

January 16, 2008: Responding to market demand, the high-performance storage specialist Dot Hill and Virtual Tape Library (VTL) vendor Sepaton have announced that they are teaming up to produce a new RAID 6 VTL solution.

The OEM deal between the two will see Sepaton integrate its disk-based S2100(R)-ES2 VTL with Dot Hill's 2730 Turbo, its latest modular enterprise storage platform compliant with RoHS and WEEE standards.

According to the two, this marriage of solutions will deliver modular scalability, Fibre Channel wire speed performance, simple management and best-in-class deduplication performance, while Sepaton adds that it will automate all storage provisioning and performance optimisation, including dynamic capacity expansion and load-balancing to maintain optimal performance.

Sepaton also claims that by using Dot Hill's patented SimulCache technology, its new offering leverages redundant controllers for top-notch read/write performance, eliminating the hit associated with conventional cache mirroring.

“In addition to being RoHS- and WEEE-compliant, the S2100-ES2 offers customers a single, cost-effective, scalable system to centrally manage and protect enterprise data, and eliminate costly, manual and error-prone remote-site data management practices,” said Miklos Sandorfi, chief technology officer at Sepaton. “We are pleased to partner with Dot Hill and applaud the company's commitment to our success as an OEM partner.”
