Hifn Shows Off Unified Storage Platform

August 20, 2008: Data storage and networking specialist HiFn has unveiled its new unified storage platform, which consolidates multiple Enterprise-class storage applications into a single high-performance storage system.

Shown off at this year’s Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco from August 19 to 21, the solution combines key storage applications such as high-performance de-duplication, continuous data protection, back-up and secure distributed file services (DFS).

Based on Intel’s 5100 MCH Chipset, HiFn says that the architecture enables its Unified Storage Platform to support multiple storage applications, eliminating the need for multiple single function storage devices.

It says that this frees up space in data centres, reduces power consumption and cooling requirements, simplifies management and significantly reduces total cost of ownership.

“We are showing a new storage platform that is enabled through the processing power of Intel architecture and the purpose-built, hardware-advantaged capabilities from Hifn,” said Russell Dietz, VP and CTO at Hifn. “This demonstration is an example of how our support for the Intel QuickAssist Technology initiative brings together complementary technology for the benefit of innovation.”
