Quantum Shrinks LTO-4 Drives

January 18, 2008: Quantum has introduced a new half-height LTO-4 tape drive which not only boasts grater performance, but increased energy efficiency than full-height drives.

Quantum says that the LTO-4 Half-Height (HH) tape drive is suited for midrange and enterprise customers, plus companies seeking affordable backup for their remote offices.

With 800 GB native capacity and transfer rates up to 432 GB/hr, the HH drive doubles the capacity and increases performance by 50 percent over previous generation LTO drives while retaining the same level of security and reliability as full-height LTOs.

“Quantum has developed an easy-to-use storage solution that offers the same performance and capacity as competitors' full-height offerings,” said Kevin Koski, product manager, server storage at Quantum reseller Equus.

“Customers [will] not only achieve the highest in LTO-4 performance, but also […] realise the benefits associated with the smaller format taking up less data centre space.”
