Dell Releases Automated D2D Data Protection Solution

October 9, 2008: Dell is promising to simplify backups with a new integrated disk-to-disk (D2D) data protection solution - the PowerVault DL2000.

Dell claims the DL2000 is the industry’s first integrated D2D-based backup and recovery solution that simplifies data protection processes, while cutting backup and restore times by up to 55 and 77 percent respectively compared to tape.

An integrated hardware and software platform, Dell says the DL2000 automates the setup and management of D2D backup, enabling the optimisation of resources through a tiered storage strategy, and centralises management to simplify backup, recovery and de-duplication.

“Customers face exponential data growth and are struggling with the amount of critical information they have to store, manage and protect on a daily basis,” says Darren Thomas, vice president and general manager of Dell’s storage business.

“They’re telling us they need ways to automate routine tasks. Our response is to deliver intelligent data management solutions that drastically simplify storage.”

Dell expects to make the system available later this month.
