NetApp and Texas Team on SSDs

February 4, 2009: Texas Memory Systems and Network Appliance have announced a new partnership to improve performance through the use of solid-state memory for disk as well as for controller caches.

The two have partnered to certify interoperability between Texas Memory’s RamSan-500 solid state disk and NetApp’s V-Series storage controller.

Texas says that the RamSan-500 is the highest performance cached Flash Solid State Disk (SSD) system on the market, and claims that its combination with NetApp’s V-Series will enable enterprises to greatly improve storage infrastructure return on investment (ROI) while offering sub-millisecond performance, simplified data management, and better resource utilisation.

“IT departments are under unprecedented pressure to boost performance while leveraging their existing storage architecture,” said Woody Hutsell, Executive Vice President at Texas Memory Systems. “Adding the RamSan-500 and the V-Series makes perfect sense at this time, because together they can accelerate applications, reduce operating costs, and extend the useful life of legacy storage by integrating seamlessly into existing SAN and NAS deployments.”

“Together, we’re providing a powerful combination of leading SSD technology with advanced capabilities that are inherent in all NetApp systems that our customers can use for their most critical business applications.”
