HP Launches Business in a Box

September 13, 2007: Hewlett Packard has just launched its c3000 blade server enclosure which is targetted at midsize companies.

HP’s newly released server, the c3000 has been codenamed “Shorty” and is a compact, smaller version of its big sister the HP c7000. The c3000 can house a combination of blades and drives depending on the clients needs. Blade Servers, LTO Tape drives and HP All in one storage devices can be swapped and changed to suit.

HP blade servers actually power the Opera House’s own data centre, which isn’t surprising considering they are in a corporate partnership with HP. According to Claire Swaffield, Chief Information Officer at the Opera House, the reason they went with blade servers is the lack of space back stage, meaning their data centre doesn’t have a lot of room to work with.

“This is the biggest server launch ever in Australia” says Andrew Cameron, Blade Product Manager at HP, “It’s not just smoke and mirrors, we have the prototype right here in front of us”.

HP also announced that a tower based solution is coming sometime in 2008, aiming to expand on the 50% market share HP has obtained according to IDC.
