SanDisk Sells SSDs to Systems Integrators

October 1, 2007: In the wake of its successful OEM launch earlier this year and as the popularity of Solid State Disks (SSDs) rapidly increases, SanDisk has announced that it will now be selling the drives to system integrators.

Previously only available to PC manufacturers as drop-in HDD replacements and for industrial, embedded and computing solutions, the drives will now be offered to integrators and system builders as stand-alone units, greatly expanding the market for the drives and bringing them one step closer to mainstream use.

According to SanDisk’s Scott Deutsch, vice president of worldwide sales for the firm’s Computing Solutions Division, this will make SSD-based systems available to large enterprises and small-to-medium businesses, with shipments of the 32GB units expected to start in October.

“Mainstream notebook PC OEMs are beginning to feature the performance and high reliability benefits of solid-state drives as drop-in replacements for hard disk drives,” said IDC’s Jeff Janukowicz.

“With SanDisk’s expansion of sales through the distribution channel, systems integrators and white box manufacturers will gain easy access to SSDs, enabling further market adoption.”
