Storage All The Rage in NZ

February 2007, 2006: IDC has projected the New Zealand storage market to go from ‘operational pain’ to ‘strategic gain’ with opportunities for storage consulting looking particularly healthy.

Looking into storage software, hardware and services, IDC has released its forecast for New Zealand’s storage market from 2006-2010. The verdict looks good, the storage solutions market looks set to grow faster then the overall IT market in New Zealand with storage consulting services to provide the strongest portion of growth.

Although storage is in increasing demand, IDC says the majority of New Zealand businesses have not yet developed a well defined, storage strategy. As businesses realise the need to explore strategic storage planning, storage consulting will be in demand.

“Despite the fact that many New Zealand companies are struggling to cope with exploding data volumes, new regulatory compliance obligations and increasing storage complexity, only a very small percentage of these businesses have developed long-term storage strategies,” says Ullrich Loeffler, market analyst for Information Management Solutions IDC Australia/New Zealand.

According to IDC, the storage market is set to increase at a CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of 10.5 percent and reach NZ$58 million (AU$51 million) by 2010.
