Cutting the Cost of Migration

Cutting the Cost of Migration

December 13th, 2006: DCMI has launched a new business and new partnership with Unisys in London this week, promising software solutions to dramatically reduce the effort, risk and costs associated with migrating a data centre.

The company claims that its technology and methods not only help organisations save 60 percent of the time and 40 percent of the effort that goes into consolidating or migrating data centres, but also that its Migrata solution is the only one available on the market.

DCMI says that Migrata delivers significant benefits over ‘pen and paper’ style management solutions, functioning as a single point of information for the entire project. The company lists its key features as comprehensive risk reporting, effortless regulatory compliance, scheduling and task management and that Migrata is based on open standards.

Alongside Migrata, DCMI says its partnership with Unisys will enable it to bring its innovations to IT companies worldwide.

“Unisys is in a very strong position as the first Systems Integrator to work with DCMI's solution, which combined with the Unisys Discovery and Assessment tools will give us a head-start in the emerging market for data centre migration software,” said Clive Croft, Sales Manager at Unisys. “DCM software is something that IT organisations have been crying out for and we are confident that most IT professionals will very quickly recognise the significant benefits this solution can deliver to any data centre project.”

“I have undertaken several data centre moves and I know from first-hand experience that data centre migration and consolidation is extremely complex and expensive,” said Martin Williams, founder of DCMI. “It always seemed odd to me that there was no software solution to make it an easier and cheaper process.”

Whether it be a disaster recovery response or simple shift or premises, moving a data centre while retaining 100 percent uptime can be a daunting and complicated affair. Overall DCMI says its solution can help alleviate this with a process substantially more advanced than a set of excel spreadsheets.
