Symantec Offers Solution To Data Centres

June 1, 2006: Symantec has announced an integrated solution that will enable data centres to standardise on a consistent software infrastructure across heterogeneous application, database, server and storage platforms.

This solution developed from what Symantec defines as the need for a better approach to manage the data centre infrastructure. According to the company, the demands on data centres are growing dramatically, budgets and staff levels are essentially flat and data centres are complex and virtually unmanageable. With the Symantec Data Centre Foundation, the company promises to provide a comprehensive range of critical technologies - data protection and data management, storage tiering, server and storage consolidation, data migration, storage capacity management, server automation, application availability and disaster recovery. All of this designed to help IT take proactive control of the data centre, drive down costs and increase service levels.

The Symantec Data Centre Foundation is said to incorporate Veritas NetBackup, Veritas Storage Foundation, Veritas Server Foundation and Veritas i3 application performance management. It claims to control a common integration platform across the product families. According to the company, this will enable enterprises to replace different tools with the Symantec Data Centre Foundation, enabling protection and availability of critical information and applications, improved utilisation of storage and server hardware assets and enhanced visibility and control of complex data centre environments.

Kris Hagerman, senior vice president, data centre management group, Symantec Corporation says that the Symantec Data Centre Foundation is the only infrastructure solution that gives customers the ability to standardise on a single infrastructure software platform across their entire data centre, while leveraging product offerings to drive optimal utilisation of hardware and labour resources.
