Seagate Boasts Record Profits

January 13, 2006: According to CEO, Bill Watkins, the manufacturer achieved: "the strongest quarter in the company's history, (and) also the strongest quarter in the history of any company in the disk drive industry.

Seagate, which was named Forbes magazine's 'Company of the Year' in 2005, issued a press release that saw Watkins' quoting some heavyweight figures in relation to the storage industry. According to the successful CEO: "Over the last 12 months, the [storage] industry shipped 380-million disc drives totalling a massive 35-million terabytes of storage - an increase of 60% from 2004."

The primary driver for this enormous rise in the amount of megabytes sold is the consumer area - home computers, 'media centres', digital video, music and stills photography. However, from a professional image and data management perspective, the numerically underlined fact that more people are purchasing, using and understanding more storage than ever before bodes extremely well for a healthy business environment.
