Manpower employs BT to manage network

Manpower has appointed BT Global Services to upgrade and manage its worldwide data network for the next five years, making it the first company in its industry to adopt a fully integrated, global telecommunications infrastructure.

The contract is worth US$73 million and will significantly increase the bandwidth available to Manpower's branches in many different countries. It is hoped that the increase in bandwidth will improve the performance of business applications and will also streamline access to company-wide resources.

This agreement means that BT will migrate Manpower to a completely managed, global Wide Are Network (WAN) which will reach 3,200 sites in 63 countries.

Services will be provided to 12 markets in the Asia Pacific, including Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea and Thailand.

Richard Davidson, senior vice-president and Global CIO of Manpower Inc., said. "We were looking for a partner that could support our long-term IT strategy, which is designed to continue leading the staffing industry in effective and efficient use of technology to improve our business processes and accelerate the implementation of customer-facing applications.

"We selected BT because they had the strongest global footprint with regard to resources and infrastructure, demonstrated an ability to provide end-to-end network support in each of our global locations, met our technical requirements and were flexible in their commercial offering. We are excited to have BT as a partner."

Domestic DSL networks will seamlessly connect Manpower's office to BT's global backbone. BT will also monitor the systems regularly and implement improvements needed to the telecommunications network and other business-critical applications.
