HP introduces better data protection for businesses

HP's new Ultimate Data Protection solution which aims to help companies cope with increasing overflow of data, data creation and the huge volumes of information which needs to be controlled and managed everyday.

This solution focuses on combining technology, specially customised for each organisation, to help them protect their data in SANs, NAS', LANs, DAS' and enterprise multi-level systems.

HP expects the solution to help businesses cope with the high costs associated with downtime and data loss, which too frequently disrupt business security and continuity.

In the past, data, in the form of paper documents, used to be stored in secure storage areas such as vaults or file rooms, but now due to the increase of electronic storage, companies are still coming to terms with dealing with long-term risks.

For instance, the corruption, loss and continuous access to this data is hard to maintain for IT managers. Short interruptions can have a big impact on the performance of companies.

Research by HP reveals that the main reason for downtime and data loss in companies is because of hardware or system failures.

HP believes that Data protection is the most important issue facing organisation today and has therefore offered many different choices for data protection, catering for tape, disk drives, Raid and data mirroring, with software to manage it.

For the DAS systems, HP offers a one-button disaster recovery function for fast restoration or recovery. It also offers a hot-plug technology, which allows users to add or remove tape drives without interrupting server operations.

With the LAN set-up, HP OpenView software can provide a very efficient solution for protecting multiple servers in this environment.

The NAS systems can also use the OpenView software to copy only data that has changed at the remote site, using only a fraction of available bandwidth, and it can run at off-peak times too.

HP offers free tools, comprehensive testing and support with SAN technology to help increase the safety, and security of data, freeing up businesses to focus on key operations.
