HP signals time for TRIM

HP has announced the end of the TRIM brand, with the Australian-developed record-keeping software it acquired in 2008 to be folded into HP's next-generation Records Manager 8.0 product.

The new release will also incorporate technology from other HP acquisitions such as Autonomy Records Manager and Meridio Records Manager.

It  furthers HP's push towards a next generation EDRMS as a more web-based application based on the TRIM codebase and functionality, delivered on-premise or via the cloud.

HP says upgrades to Records Manager 8.0 from TRIM will require about the same effort as a typical version upgrade, while a toolkit will be provided for ARM and Meridio users.

Neil Araujo, general manager, Enterprise Content Management, HP Autonomy, said "HP Records Manager 8.0 leverages the unique power of Autonomy IDOL, our proven technologies in records management, and several important enhancements that will allow organisations to get their digital house in order in a compliant and cost-efficient manner."

One of the new features highlighted was stronger manage-in-place capabilities that facilitate direct management of SharePoint 2013 records without having to copy or move data for retention management and defensible disposition

The launch of HP Records Manager 8.0 coincides with the launch of Autonomy ControlPoint 4.1, which includes enhancements that improve how the two products work together. This allows organisations to analyse unstructured information that resides in SharePoint sites, email repositories, and file shares, and migrate a subset of this data, based on pre-existing information policy, to HP Records Manager 8.0 for long-term management and disposition. HP Application Information Optimizer is also integrated with HP Records Manager 8.0, so organisations can also migrate specified structured data into the application as well.
