Paperless push by Victorian Supreme Court

Victoria's Supreme Court is to receive a new web-based case management system, known as RedCrest, after the state government announced $A675,000 funding for the initiative.

Victorian Minister for Technology Gordon Rich-Phillips, said the new system will use high capacity broadband to lodge and manage case files electronically, replacing the existing paper based process.

“RedCrest is highly innovative system. It will transform the process of recording, storing and providing access to court documents, bringing about significant cost savings,” Mr Rich-Phillips said.

“Hosted in a secure cloud environment, all case files including associated documentation will be uploaded to a secure site with access limited to appropriate parties from any location, 365 days a year, providing more convenient access and reducing costs for those based in regional and remote areas.”

The RedCrest system will initially be piloted by approximately 5,000 users, across 1,400 cases in the Commercial Court of the Supreme Court of Victoria.

"This development will be very important for commercial litigation in Victoria. The support of this innovation by the Coalition Government has been vital," Chief Justice Marilyn Warren said.
