Buffalo Releases Web-enabled NAS Device

August 15, 2007: Boosting the usefulness of its network attached storage (NAS) offerings, Buffalo has taken a leaf out of Western Digital’s book and added remote access to its latest TeraStation Live NAS device.

Buffalo has been expanding its small business-friendly line of storage devices, however, this latest addition to its line goes further than a typical NAS device thanks to the company’s Web Access service. The feature enables the TeraStation to not only function as a networked backup and archival device, but one that can be accessed from any web browser around the world.

As it has its own DNS server, the device enables users connect remotely via Buffalo’s website. A handy feature for those who are constantly on the road and do not want to risk carrying large amounts of data on the off chance they may need one or two files.

The TeraStation comes in one, two and three terabyte flavours and requires no firewall configuration, making it attractive to small firms lacking dedicated IT support.

According to Morikazu Sano, senior vice president of global sales and marketing at Buffalo, due to the explosion in data storage requirements and increasing demands by consumers for complete accessibility to their data around the clock web-enabled NAS devices are the logical step in the evolution of storage. “[The] Web Access feature combined with the simplicity of the TeraStation Live provides an effortless solution to meet these demands,” said Sano.
