Documentum Records Suite 6.8 launched

The release of EMC Documentum Records Suite 6.8 adds features such as a new dashboard, secure disposition, and email management.

Secure Disposition Processing: The processing of the Export Disposition strategy has been updated to restrict the ability to define the destination export location. This prevents rogue Retention and Record Managers from using the export capability to overwrite or corrupt existing files in the destination location. A new functional role has been introduced to configure the permitted location list (or white list). This capability is enabled by default for customers with security concerns, but may be disabled to maintain the pre-6.8 behaviour during disposition processing. Note all export locations must be formatted as a valid network location or UNC path.

Records Dashboard and Reporting: To enhance the management of records policies and reduce risk, a new dashboard providing system status reports has been added to the Record client. The dashboard displays shortcuts to configuration objects and provides a summary view of retention policies and markups applied in the repository, and physical items whose return to the file room is overdue. Additional options have been added to the work order reports to provide details of non-compliant items, such as those overdue for disposition or with extra or missing policies or markups in place.

Email Management and Migration: The dm_message_archive type and the associated EMC Mail Format (EMCMF) that were retired from WebTop 6.8 have been replaced in this Records release with native MSG format file support for new email messages. This gives companies the opportunity to leverage custom object types for data communicated via email. The declaration of email as a record process has been revised and a supporting migration utility is also provided to update existing email objects with an additional content page in the new format. This preserves the integrity of the original email object while permitting view and export access using the new email management components and the MSG content page.

EMC WORM Support: For companies that have regulatory requirements or that have a need to protect records from corruption and deletion as well as erroneous data insertion by unauthorized users the Records products for this release have been certified and are supported to work with chronological (time-based), fixed retentions on EMC Isilon and Data Domain storage devices running in Write Once Read Many (WORM) mode, in line with existing Content Server functionality. For more details please refer to the Content Server Administration and Configuration Guide’s section Supporting WORM for Data Domain and Isilon stores.

Documentum Product Interoperation: Providing simplification for the Records installation process on Content Server 7.1., Records 6.8 is now certified as supported on versions of Documentum Content Server and DFC up to 7.2. The DFC version embedded in the Records products has also been updated to DFC 7.1P18.
