Websense Launches SMB Security Software

July 5, 2007: Security firm Websense has just launched Websense Express, a new security offering for small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs) that it claims offers intelligent, easy to deploy protection from emerging Web security threats while bolstering network bandwidth and productivity.

Express has been designed for firms with less than 500 users, and includes Websense’s ThreatSeeker technology which helps manage business Internet use, blocking unwanted or unauthorised sites and protecting against security threats that aren’t always uncovered by firewall and antivirus software.

According to analyst firm Yankee Group, many mid-sized organisations are struggling with security basics. Threats are becoming more sophisticated by the day, and as more dynamic and media-rich content is served over the Web, unmanaged Internet access can distract employees.

Not only this, but access to bandwidth-intensive Web sites such as YouTube with its streaming video and P2P file sharing sites can have a drastic effect on both network performance and security.

Websense says its new kit helps to secure SMBs with enterprise-class Web security and content filtering, enabling smaller firms to get on with the task of running their businesses rather than playing big brother.

“SMBs face the same operational and security challenges as larger enterprises, but they have fewer resources at their disposal,” said Joel Camissar, Websense Country Manager for Australia and New Zealand. “With this new software, Websense is protecting SMB customers from data loss caused by Web-based security threats and business-draining activities caused by unfettered Internet access.”
