AMD Collaborates With Inphi on Next Gen Server Memory

By Nathan Statz

July 27th, 2007: AMD and Inphi have partnered up to push the envelope on higher density memory for next generation servers.

In the multi core processing world, increasing memory bandwidth and density have become key to achieving high quality server performance. AMD have been working closely with Inphi on its IN16KXMX Socket G3 Memory Extender solutions family.

AMD's problem has been that with the addition of more and more processor cores, the memory requirements are constantly increasing. "AMD is working hand in hand with Inphi to provide a proactive solution" said Randy Allen, corporate vice president, server and workstation division at AMD.

The aim of the collaboration is to meet the most demanding DDR3memory technology requirements of next generation servers, based on AMD64 technology. The components will be used to connect high speed memory to AMD's CPUs.
