XDS Shows off Desktop Virtualisation

June 5, 2007: Virtualisation is definitely coming of age, with new and improved applications now appearing in droves. The latest is desktop virtualisation software from XDS called SIMtone VDU.

The company says SIMtone VDU is aimed at enterprises seeking to deliver scalable corporate desktops on-demand over both local networks and the internet.

XDS pegs its solution as a “digital dial tone” service, claiming that service offers a range of new capabilities including local printing support via USB, automatic time zone adjustment and plug-and-play connectivity for both Windows XP and Linux virtual hosted servers.

It says the solution includes a Web proxy and SIMtone XAS, a network provisioning and administration portal designed to help customers activate and manage servers, users, service features and devices.

As it is an on-demand service, the company claims enterprises can scale operations and deliver Windows environments without owning and managing any additional data centre, network or endpoints beyond a central desktop server.

“The service provides a ‘digital dial tone’ approach to IT and desktop management systems, remote access environments, business continuity and disaster recovery,” said Tim Mason, executive vice president of Operations at XDS. “It also enables enterprises to provide secure desktop computing environments to employees in real time, no matter where they are located.”
