Microsoft Boosts MDM with Stratature Buy

June 11, 2007: Microsoft is moving deeper into master-data management, saying it has opened its wallet and picked up Stratature and its enterprise document management (EDM) software.

The company intends to integrate Stratature’s tools into its own Microsoft Office Business platform, discontinuing sales of Stratature’s line of solutions. That said, Microsoft has given its assurances that Stratature’s current customers will not be left out in the cold, saying it will still honour all current support agreements and contracts.

Microsoft has bought Stratature to more or less save itself the time and effort of developing its own master-data management (MDM) system, claiming in an online FAQ that the solution had everything it needed.

The software uses Microsoft’s SQL Server database and provides analytical hierarchy management, a service that enables executives to gather information about the operations of specific departments. Next to this, it also provides developers with a single source of data to streamline and integrate data

The deal provides a big boost to Microsoft’s ability to manage unstructured data, more details of which are forthcoming according to the company.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
