Accenture Releases Tools to Green IT

By Greg McNevin

July 25, 2008: With being green becoming increasingly important to enterprises around the world, Accenture has introduced a new ‘green technology suite’ to help businesses assess and improve their credentials when it comes to shades of emerald.

The suite is a comprehensive set of tools designed aid the assessment of environmental standing, and provide recommendations on how to address carbon footprints via better management of IT resources.

Accenture says the tools provide everything from detailed assessments of where the enterprise sits within a green “maturity spectrum,” to suggesting IT initiatives that can be undertaken to address a company’s future carbon footprint.

It adds that the tools also help calculate the impact of specific initiatives in terms of workplace environmental efficiency, and data centre energy savings.

“The new tools, whether used together or individually, provide organisations with much-needed insight into their power consumption and environmental footprint,” says Steve Nunn, global lead for green IT at Accenture.

It’s not all about being green, however, as most companies are discovering that being green is also a highly effective means of cost-cutting.

“By implementing the specific, tailored green recommendations, organisations can achieve measurable environmental improvements that contribute to bottom line savings,” says Nunn.
