Iomega Revs Up Security

May 18, 2007: Iomega has announced that its REV storage products now natively support Symantec Backup Exec 11d for Windows Servers.

The company says that all 35GB and 70GB REV drives as well as single-disk and autoloader systems now have native support for Symantec’s protection software, which was previously only available in single-disk REV systems.

The REV system has been designed for SMBs in mind, and according to Symantec, Backup Exec compliments both well.

“Backup Exec has supported disk-based backups for years,” says Pat Hanavan, Vice President of Product Management, Symantec Corporation. “Extending Backup Exec 11d support to Iomega's REV automation technology provides options as small businesses look to disk-based protection as an alternative to tape.

The company says that when used with Backup Exec 11d, REV loaders work just like tape, eliminating any retraining when combined with network backup and data recovery.

“Iomega's REV backup and archive products are the only removable disk technology products with automation, and we couldn't be happier that dedicated Backup Exec users can now benefit from our REV Loader products' superior capabilities,” says Tom Kampfer, President and COO of Iomega. “Users of Backup Exec now have a clear upgrade path from tape storage to the superior hard drive-based speed, usability and reliability of REV technology.”
