No Linux for APAC Dell Customers… Yet

May 30, 2007: Last week Dell announced that it would soon have one desktop and two laptops on sale with Linux pre-installed, however, Australian’s may have a bit of a wait ahead for local availability.

Speaking to ZDNet.com.au, Dell’s Australian spokesman Paul McKeon said that the Australian arm of the PC maker will be observing the market reaction in the US before making any definitive plans on local availability.

“It's something we'd definitely like to do ... we have a sizeable Linux community in Australia particularly in Canberra and Adelaide,” McKeon told ZDNet.

Dell could also face some complications in APAC due to the diversity of languages in our region. While no major stumbling block, ensuring it can offer the right level of Multilanguage support could add up to at least some minor delay.

While it already offers Linux in the enterprise space, Dell recently announced that it would be pre-installing Ubuntu Linux on select machines due to overwhelming customer demand.
