BitDefender’s Most Wanted

BitDefender’s Most Wanted

April 4, 2007: BitDefender have named the top ten malware threats for March in a list covering 60 percent of all viruses seen in circulation and a call to beware of malware ‘Darwinism.’

“We may be seeing the Internet version of natural selection in action, with a few successful species displacing the less successful ones on a massive scale,” says Viorel Canja for BitDefender.

With a whooping 30.95 percent of total detections, a malware threat known as Trojan.Peed.Gen topped BitDefender’s most wanted list. The Trojan.Peed.Gen just already jumped to infamous heights as the year’s first true virus epidemic and is showing no signs of letting up on its vicious attack.

BitDefender says the most notable new entry into the malware list is Win32.Sality.M, a nasty polymorphic virus which has been spreading its dangerous word over the past few weeks, mainly through another virus known as the Bangle mass mailer. The security vendor says Win32.Salinity.M will be a high monitoring priority for April in order to determine its potential wide-spread damage.
