Cisco and NetApp Collaborate on New Fabric Switch

March 9, 2007: Network Appliance and Cisco have been busy working away on new offerings and have announced the availability of a new Cisco fabric switch for NetApp SANs.

Aimed at small and medium-sized enterprises, Cisco’s MDS 9124 Multilayer Fabric Switch has been designed specifically for NetApp’s FAS200 and FAS3000 series systems, and delivers, according to the two, advanced enterprise-level functionality further down the food chain.

When paired with the NetApp’s SAN solutions, Cisco says the MDS 9124 provides end users with ease-of-use, high data availability, flexibility and mission-critical security, with flexible "pay as you grow" port pricing.

"The Cisco MDS 9124 combined with NetApp storage solutions offers small to midsized enterprise customers with modular growth, security and enterprise availability," says Ed Chapman, vice president of product management, Data Centre and Switching Business Unit at Cisco.

Cisco says that the new 24-port Fibre Channel SAN switch also includes a point-and-click wizard to simplify SAN setup and management, and is compatible with the entire family of Cisco MDS 9000 switches and NetApp storage systems.
