Seagate Unveils ‘Dave’

February 6, 2006: Seagate has unveiled its Digital Audio and Video Experience, known as D.A.V.E, the hand size device provides an external mobile hard drive that fits in your back pocket.

The one-inch device is designed to be carried around during day-to-day activities and connects by wirelessly streaming data to a mobile phone. Storing between 10 and 20 gigabytes of data, Seagate says the device will work to complement current mobile devices which usually only store somewhere between two and four gigabytes.

While existing phones are capable of storing multiple photos and messages, Seagate’s storage device could boost their capacity to enable them to store documents, additional music and film.

Seagate says the device includes a power saving Storage Management Module allowing it to run for up to ten hours in streaming mode and 14 days in standby mode.

The device is set to go on sale later this year with Seagate targeting mobile carriers, who will be likely to re-brand the device and sell as an additional feature to existing mobile phones.
