IBM Boosts Storage Services with Softek

January 30th, 2007: IBM has boosted its storage capabilities, announcing that it will soon acquire the Softek Storage Solutions Corp. for an undisclosed amount.

Softek specialises in data mobility technology and claims that its Transparent Data Migration Facility (TDMF) solution is a unique and simplified approach the management of data across heterogenous storage environments.

IBM says that the acquisition furthers its philosophy of mixing software, hardware and research to create standardised services. It plans to integrate Softek's technology As a result, IBM and its business partners will help clients increase the flexibility, efficiency and reliability of moving data, enabling them to quickly respond to market needs and seize new opportunities.

By integrating Softek’s technology with its own, IBM believes it can deliver new solutions to aid data migration along with more generally beefing up its storage services.

"As data capacity and compliance requirements continue to increase, companies depend on continuous access to their business-critical information," said Val Rahmani, general manager, IBM Global Technology Services according to IT News Online. "Softek's data migration technology will complement IBM's Information on Demand strategy and significantly bolster our Storage and Data Services portfolio."

President and CEO of Softek Steven Murphy said the company is excited to become a part of IBM’s storage services, believe that Softek’s technology will make it a key player due to its ability to reduce the risk and complexity associated with managing and moving data

The deal is subject to regulatory approval and is set to close sometime during the first quarter of this year.
