DataDirect Struts At US SNW

November 6th, 2006: DataDirect is showing off its new high-performance network attached storage (NAS) solution, saying that it can deliver up to 1.6 GB/s of sustained throughput while scaling up to 336 TB of Fibre Channel or 840 TB using SATA II disk drives.

Charismatically called the S2A9550, DataDirect says its solution Frankenstein’s high-performance NAS gear with its 7th generation S2A technology, enabling it to achieve high data throughput and broad scalability.

Showing the technology off at last week’s US Storage Networking World, DataDirect president Paul Bloch said that using the right combination of proven products and technologies, the company is able to give users the power to solve the most critical IT and business challenges and, of course, save dollars while doing it.

DataDirect says its S2A technology integrates a parallel, non-blocking architecture with SAN functionality in one device. It is designed to provide high performance, reliable storage solutions that are easy-to-install, easy-to-scale and easy-to-manage. According to the company, the S2A's architecture and consolidated functionality removes the complexity, congestion, latency and contention of generic RAID systems.

DataDirect also showed off its recently released S2A9550 Active Archive Solution, a scalable SATA disk based archive storage solution. The company said that the solution provides organisations a dense and reliable SATA disk-based archive designed to strike a balance between the higher cost of disk storage versus the limited performance of tape archive solutions.
