New Open Source Document Management Solution Released

October 3rd, 2006: Adding to the wealth of applications offering attractive alternatives to proprietary software packages, the web-based application developer Epiware has released its Document Management Suite under the open source license.

Once a developer for the US Department of Defence, the companies move to open source its solution is quite a step. And one that will see itself move from a developer into a supporter and implementer of its product.

Epiware says that its solution combines powerful document management software with a simple, PHP driven interface that enables advanced features such as a smooth AJAX-enabled drag-and-drop functions for accessing files, file version and distribution control, and project management tools.

Using PHP and MySQL, Epiware says that it can provide a total solution for companies that need to store and share files in an efficient and secure environment over the web.

“With Epiware's integrated solution employees will spend less time emailing and searching for documents that already exist; it will boost efficiency, reduce paperwork and cut costs.” Says Jim Kern, CEO of Epiware.

Open source applications are rapidly filling gaps and offering cost-effective alternatives to most proprietary software solutions on the market. Time will tell if Epiware’s solution can make its mark on the industry.
